This is the Limoges Haviland & Co. mold that you can see on page 60 in "Collecting oyster Plates". It is marked with the impressed number 13 in the porcelain. Having no other makersmarks this antique oyster plate was made before the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891 which required the name of the country where the item was originally made to be marked on the item.
This fabulous antique oyster plate features five wells which is considered a "Lady's" oyster plate as the women always ate less oysters than the men whose oyster plates held 6 oysters. Each oyster well is outlined in brown. The scalloped rim is edged in gold and also has gold paintbrush stippling from the artist. Just beautiful!!!!
It measures 8 inches in diameter and is free from any chips, cracks or repairs!!!
