Offered for your collecting enjoyment is this beautiful antique French Limoges large platter.
It bears the underglaze Limoges mark circa 1891 and an overglaze mark for Lewis Strass & Son.
The Lewis Straus Company exported porcelain from Limoges to their New York based company from the 1890's to 1920. The Straus mark is found as an overglaze mark on already factory decorated items. Pieces with the Straus mark are always professionally decorated and are often hand painted.
This large platter is done in the "Mixtion" method of transfer and hand painting. This platter also has quite a bit of enameling.
It features a scrolled and shelled border design with lavander, pink and gold flowers with green leaves.
Fancy flower enameling enhance the central floral bouquet on the tinted pink and cream background.
This platter measures 12 inches in diameter and is quite a hefty piece weighing in at 2.5 pounds just by itself!
It is in excellent condition for its great age with no chips or cracks! It does have some gold wear on the rim which is normal for age and use.
