Offered for your collecting enjoyment from my last trip to France is this fabulous antique Majolica faience asparagus platter made by the well known Longchamp Majolica company circa 1880-1910.
It features a "boat" form with 12 asparagus in the center. It has 2 sauce wells, one on each end that are hand painted with tulips and flowers and the large outside flanks are decorated with beautiful flowers.
The entire rim of this piece is molded and scalloped and hand painted. I have taken many photos for you to see how lovely this platter really is!!
You can find this exact platter on page 61 in the book "Artichauts et Asperges en barbotine".
It is well marked on the back with the impressed numbers of "1428" "B1J" and "LONGCHAMP TERRE DE FEU"
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs!! It does have fine overall glaze crazing which is normal for antique majolica and faience.
It measures 15.25 inches long and 10.25 inches wide. It stands 3.5 inches tall. Just spactacular!!!
